Literacy Program
According to The World Fact Book, the rate of illiteracy in The Republic of Haiti is approximately 50%. Subsequently, many people in the country are denied access to advanced educational and career opportunities. To counter the issue, HAC-Haiti has designed a two-fold Literacy Program, which encompasses courses that focus only on language literacy while other courses focus specifically on business and financial literacy.
As a prerequisite for our Microfinance Program, loan applicants are required to enroll in our Literacy Program to ensure they have the language and mathematical skills to manage their own small business. Unfortunately, without these basic skills, many merchants in the marketplace are unknowingly taken advantage of, which puts their business and livelihood at risk daily. HAC-Haiti believes that by raising awareness of the common risks and stressing the importance of using best practices we are empowering individuals to become successful entrepreneurs’.
